Embodiment – Movement – Environment: Interdisciplinary Perspectives

Our Cologne group took part in collaborative workshop of the research unit “Movement, Culture and Society” & Husserl Archives Cologne organized by Anthony Vincent Fernandez & Erik Norman Dzwiza-Ohlsen

‘Disciplines and approaches such as phenomenology, anthropology, 4E cognition, and urban morphology highlight the central role of movement and environment in shaping experience. Developmentally, the ability to direct the movement of our own bodies shapes how we perceive and make sense of our environments. And, over our lifespans, we also shape our physical and social environments in ways that facilitate—or sometimes obstruct—our projects and goals. This one-day workshop fostered an interdisciplinary dialogue among researchers from a variety of fields, including philosophy, the cognitive sciences, health, anthropology, and architecture. These researchers had the opportunity to share both theoretical and empirical work that investigates human experience at the nexus of embodiment, movement, and environment.’
